Legislative Internships: Indiana Statehouse

These Legislative Internships are open to college juniors and seniors, graduate students and recent graduates. Sophomores interested in applying will be evaluated on a case by case basis. As interns, you will be part of a partisan staff, so please apply for either the Democratic or Republican program. We will not schedule interviews for applicants who apply to both caucuses.”

 

What You Need To Know:

• Eligible participants include college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduates and graduate students
• Internship begins in January 2012 and ends in March
• Internship is full time, Monday through Friday 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. at the Statehouse, located in downtown Indianapolis
• Interns receive a biweekly stipend of $700
• Most colleges and universities offer academic credit
• Competitive $3,000 scholarship opportunity

The Indiana General Assembly is currently seeking qualified applicants for our internship programs during the first Regular Session of the 118^th Indiana General Assembly.  Paid internships with the Indiana House of Representatives are full-time, spring-semester commitments which provide practical experience within Indiana State Government.  Interns actively participate in the entire legislative process as they assist State Representatives within the professional setting at the Statehouse.

 

This internship was designed as an educational program and aligns well with most university and college academic internship requirements. Although the rigorous workload during session makes assuming additional course work during the internship difficult, most of our interns earn academic credits for their participation in the program and are able to maintain their full-time student status. Scholarship opportunities for exceptional interns are also available.

 

Additionally, House Republican interns have a long-standing track record of effectively transitioning into future employment as lobbyists, attorneys and Statehouse staff.

 

Applications will be accepted now through October 31, 2012.
