Strikes

This
course looks at a few revolts of ordinary American working people, including
the 1886 nationwide strike wave, the 1912 “Bread and Roses” strike, and the
“sit-down” strikes of the 1930s. We will examine these events in historical
context, analyze how they have been remembered through poetry and song, and
connect their meaning to more current events such as the Occupy movement.
