This Fall India Studies is offering INST-B 100 Introduction
to Bengali (5 credit hours). While Bengali is a less commonly known Indic
language, it is one of the world’s largest with about 230 million speakers. Not
only is it the main language of Bangladesh and two states in India itself,
Bengali is immensely important cultural language. It is the language of
Calcutta, which is arguably India’s cultural capital. Therefore if you happen
to be discussing foreign language options with students next week, please
consider if this course might be appropriate for them. The class meets M-F
8-8:50am in Sycamore Hall 0008.
