The Virtual Student Foreign Service (VSFS) is a one-of-a-kind eInternship program, founded by Secretary Clinton that virtually connects U.S. college students with U.S. diplomatic posts overseas and State Department domestic offices to engage in digital diplomacy. eInternships run from the fall through the spring to coincide with the traditional academic year.
The VSFS program is part of a growing effort by the State Department to harness technology and a commitment to global service among young people to facilitate new forms of diplomatic engagement. Working from college and university campuses in the United States, eInterns (American students working virtually) are partnered with the Department to work on a variety of project from research to social media to cultural exchanges.
I am contacting your school, because of your outstanding Haitian Creole courses that you offer and the opportunity for students to use their language skills for a virtual internship with the Office of the Haiti Special Coordinator on a project to define, monitor, analyze, and engage Haitians and Haitian-Americans via social media sites, blogs, websites, and news feeds to determine public opinions on US earthquake reconstruction assistance projects as well as overall opinions on the political, economic and social situation of Haiti. If you happen to know of any students that would be interested in applying, please encourage them to do so. Applicants must be US citizens in undergrad, grad, or post-grad full or part-time programs.
