Information
and Communications Technology (ICT) has made the world more networked and
interdependent than ever before. As we become further connected, developing
economies are able to utilize ICT in order to stimulate progress and invest in
their futures as players in the global economy. ICT has played a pivotal role
in transforming many resource-based economies in Asia into knowledge-based
ones. It has also been found that public investment in telecommunication is
positively associated with economic growth, particularly in periods of economic
difficulty. ICT contributes to economic competitiveness through productivity
growth, cost reduction, innovation, and the easing of geographical constraints.
This presentation will examine the effects of ICT and address its significant
role in developing Asian economies.
