Cardinal's To Kill a Mockingbird opens Themester 2012

Themester 2012 will open with Cardinal Stage Company's stage adaptation of Harper Lee's coming-of-age tale To Killing a Mockingbird.

IU Cinema

Good (and Bad) behavior on the silver screen

Inglourious Basterds, Mean Girls, Grizzly Man, and Project Nim will be among the film offerings of "Themester at IU Cinema." A number of other film series will address animal behavior, food-related behavior, political behavior, and human trafficking. East Asian Studies and Polish Studies will also offer explorations of good and bad behavior through film.

Henrietta Lacks

HeLa's Legacy: A public talk with David Lacks

The Office of Women's Affairs and the Department of Chemistry will host David Lacks, son of Henrietta Lacks, featured in the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The event, which complements Themester courses CHEM-G 209 "Ethics in Science" and COLL-C 105 "When Good Science Goes Bad," explores questions about scientific ethics, legal rights to bodily tissues as well as issues of race, class, and gender.

Chaz Bono

Author Chaz Bono will speak on gender identity and behavior

Complementing Themester courses SOC-S 321 "Sexual Diversity" and SOC-S 422 "Constructing Sexuality," the Department of Sociology brings author and LGBT rights advocate to discuss gender identity and behavior.

Themester 2013 planning begins, courses sought

As Themester 2012 gets under way, Themester 2013 planning begins for Connectedness: Networks in a Complex World.

The Themester 2013 will accept College of Arts and Sciences courses for review and possible inclusion in the Themester Curriculum Bundle until October 19, 2012. An official call with details will be sent in the coming weeks.
