New 2nd 8 weeks class being offered in Art History!

FINA-A 333  FROM VAN EYCK TO VERMEER (3 CR)

Cls# 34744  TOPIC : The Dutch Art of Living Well

The class meets 7-9:30 p.m. MW.  Here is a course description from the instructor:

This course traces the role of pleasure in Netherlandish art of the fifteenth through seventeenth centuries. Part of our investigation will have to do with subject matter – sex, drink, drugs, and the like – since these became major topics of interest for Dutch artists and their patrons even as religion remained a crucial part of daily life. But part of our investigation will have to do with noteworthy social and intellectual changes, including (but not limited to) a growing sense of the artist as aesthetically, intellectually, and even politically independent.
