Research Conference

The Women in Science Program of the Office for Women’s Affairs (OWA) sponsors the annual Women in Science Research Conference. The purpose of this conference is to provide an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate women students in the natural sciences, social sciences, and mathematics & technology fields to showcase their research and to network with other aspiring scientists. We are writing to enlist your support in encouraging the students in your academic unit to participate and also to encourage your faculty to serve as judges. Detailed information about the conference as well as the registration link can be found here.

The conference will take place on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the IMU, Alumni Hall. Please encourage students in your academic unit to take advantage of this opportunity to present and discuss their work, and faculty to participate as judges. Additionally, there are two opportunities prior to the conference designed to help participants prepare their posters and provide advice for to creating an effective CV or resume. Information regarding these workshops will be distributed to participants.

Students’ poster presentations will be evaluated by a panel of judges, and winners will receive the 2011 Outstanding Research Award. In addition, cash prizes will be awarded for the best poster presentations in each of the following categories: natural sciences, social sciences, and math & technology.

Additionally, a new session is available this year in which participants can learn more about career opportunities for women in science through an interactive panel of industry representatives and a networking session, facilitated by the Arts & Science Career Development Center. We are hopeful that this session will enhance the professional network of our students in salient ways.
