The EHLS (English for Heritage Language Speakers) Program offers advanced English and professional development for U.S. citizens from specific language backgrounds who are interested in working for the federal government.
For 2013, the program is open to U.S. citizens who are native speakers of:
· Arabic · Balochi · Dari · Hausa · Hindi · Igbo · Kyrgyz · Mandarin Chinese · Pashto | · Persian Farsi · Punjabi · Somali · Tajik · Turkish · Urdu · Uzbek · Yoruba |
EHLS scholars improve their English through a challenging curriculum of research, presentation, meeting facilitation, and professional writing skills. The 8-month program consists of 6 months of full-time study at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, followed by 2 months of part-time distance learning.
Program costs (including a living stipend and relocation costs) are covered by a full scholarship, paid for by the federal government. In return for the scholarship, graduates are required to seek federal employment and work for at least one year.
