The College of Arts and Sciences and the Campus Writing Program are soliciting submissions for the annual Intensive Writing (IW) Essay Prize for students enrolled in IW courses during the 2011-2012 academic year. A committee of past and current IW instructors will select up to 2 winning essays (1 essay longer than 10 pages and 1 essay shorter than 10 pages) from each of the three distribution areas in which IW courses are taught: Arts and Humanities, Social and Historical Studies and Natural and Mathematical Sciences. The primary criterion of evaluation for this competition is excellence in argument and exposition. Prizes are valued at $150.
The Intensive Writing Essay Prizes are awarded each academic year, and nominations and submissions are accepted in the fall and spring semesters. The deadline for essays to be considered for this year’s competition is Friday, March 2, 2012. Please see the CITL website for specific information on submission procedures for this competition.
We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to have your best writing recognized by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning. This competition highlights not only the valuable role that writing plays in the College curriculum, but the strength and excellence of our Intensive Writing program. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.
We look forward to receiving your submission!
