All Student Organizations MUST re-register this fall by Thursday, September 8th
to continue receiving benefits.
This past spring, a new process for student organization re-registration was instituted.  On March 28th, 2011, all organizations registered on myINvolvement were assigned an electronic re-registration form through the website.

Re-registration is necessary in order to maintain your student organization benefits:
·         Space reservations on campus
·         Registration for the 2011 Student Involvement Fair—9/7/11
·         Eligibility to apply for IUSA Funding Board funds
·         Use of a Student Organization Account
·         Web presence on www.myINvolvement.indiana.edu

Your group must re-register on myINvolvement prior to reserving a table for the Student Involvement Fair. Allow 2 business days for re-registration to be processed.  Registration for the Fair is on a first-come, first-served basis and closes on Friday, September 2nd at 5:00 p.m.

All registered groups will maintain their current benefits until 9/8/11, even if they have not re-registered. If your organization does not re-register by 9/8/11, it will be hidden on myINvolvement and you will not be able to manage your organization’s page or roster. Also, you will not be able to access the benefits listed above until you complete the re-registration form for your organization.

You can find the form on your organization’s page on the “Registration Forms” tab on the right. On the form you will have the opportunity to:
1.       Update your membership roster and executive positions. You must have at least 5 IU members (required).
2.       Upload an updated constitution (required).

Once you have submitted the re-registration form and it has been reviewed by our staff, your organization will be notified via email that you are re-registered for the 2011-2012 academic year.

If you have questions about this process, please email iusll@indiana.edu
Are you a student who cares about leadership and is willing to put your passion into action?

Shaffer Interns are involved in supporting projects, events, and initiatives that promote the tradition of student involvement at Indiana University. Interns work closely with staff in Student Life and Learning and participate in leadership development training. Additionally, this program is designed as a cohort experience, which means that interns have the opportunity to work and support one another throughout the year. Interns will have the opportunity to exercise their own creativity and autonomy in their internship project area.

Examples of internship areas include:
             Student Involvement Fair
             Student Organization Celebration
             Greek Assessment and Awards Program
             LEAD IU
             Marketing and Social Media

Internships typically require 5 hours per week and last for the entire academic year (Fall, Spring). Each semester interns receive a stipend of $500.

Shaffer Leadership Interns are eligible to register for credit through the School of Education and LEAD IU.
For an application, please contact Chris Medrano at cmedrano@indiana.edu.

Illumenate would like to host an event on Tuesday, September 27th to celebrate Gay Men’s HIV Awareness Day.

In 2008, the National Association of People With AIDS (NAPWA) started the National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. NAPWA founded NGMHAAD to raise gay men's awareness of the HIV epidemic and the role they can play in bringing it to an end.  One thing that we are looking to do is partner with various community organizations to promote HIV/STD Testing.  We would also be launching our “Get Turned On” safer sex campaign.

If you would like to be involved in the planning or helping please let us know, we would really like to show a united front to our community in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The first meeting of NOGLSTP at IU, National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals, is Wednesday, August 31st. We will be meeting at 7:30pm in the Distinguished Alumni Room of the IMU.

WHY SHOULD I BE A PART OF NOGLSTP???
Well...NOGLSTP at IU has the potential to play a vital role at this university.
Here are three examples:
1. It can give graduating students a professional way to be out on their resume, by listing membership in a professional, queer organization.

2. There is a glaring disparity in the "queer climate," between the math and sciences versus the liberal arts.  It does NOT have to be this way.  This is a major ambition for the group.  (Going from the music school, to a semester of only math classes, to a semester in the education school, I have been made very aware of the differences).

3. Provide an opportunity for GLBTQ students in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) to meet other queer students.

Would love to hear more ideas, see new faces!!
Thanks for your time.

President, NOGLSTP at IU
