Asian Culture Center Events

Win an iPad 2, Join the Asian Heritage Month Creative Writing Contest
Who can submit? The contest is open to all IUB undergraduate students.
Deadline for Submission: Wednesday, March 23, 2011.
We are looking for creative examinations of issues in identity, ethnicity, race, heritage, and citizenship in the American experience through three genres in creative writing: short fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction.

The theme for the contest is "Borders and Pathways: Shaping Identity in Modern America.”

Prizes for the first, second, and third place winners include:
· 1st Prize – iPad2 (16 GB) plus (special reading at the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month reception on March 31, 2011 at 12 noon, Grand Hall, Neal Marshal Black Culture Center
· 2nd prize - $150 Gift Card
· 3rd prize - $ 100 Gift Card

Exploring  Creative Writing led by Debra Kang Dean
Second Tuesdays on March 8, April 12, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
@ IU Asian Culture Center, 807 E. 10th Street
On the second Tuesday in September, October, and November, students not currently enrolled in creative writing classes and the community are invited to to explore our world through creative writing.  n the spirit of Renku, a Japanese form of collaborative writing, we will take as our subject natural phenomena and/or the holidays, both of which mark the passage of the seasons.  No experience necessary.
Chinese Painting Class at the ACC
Thursdays on March 10 & 24, April 7, from 5:15-7:00 p.m. @ Lounge, IU Asian Culture Center
Learn and practice traditional Chinese painting with Lan Yuzhi Participants will need to bring their own materials such as a small bottle of Chinese or Japanese ink, brush, and rice paper. This class is open to 16 and above. Advance free registration is required. You may email the ACC at acc@indiana.edu to do so. Please call 856-5361 for more information or questions.

Times: Let's Play Mahjong 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. & GO Game 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Go, the oldest game still played in its original form, is a wonderful game to learn and play with a couple of your friends. Mahjong, a game of wit and fortune, is a great afternoon relaxer on a Friday afternoon. Stop by and learn these great games. For more information, email the ACC. Hope to see many participants there!

Need a place to go to talk about feeling discriminated on campus or in the community? Don't know what to do or who to confide in? The R.I.C.E.R. service provides students the opportunity to share personal experiences of racism, discuss ways of identifying, coping with, and confronting casual and everyday racism in a confidential atmosphere.
