The Arts of Tea (Part 1): An Introduction to Chanoyu (茶の湯)
Mitsuko Kawabata, a second year Ph.D. student in Ethnomusicology, presents an introduction to Japanese Tea at the Archives of Traditional Music Noon Concert/Lecture Series on February 18, 2011. Growing up in Nara and Kyoto, in Japan, Mitsuko has had various opportunities to learn and appreciate various types of tea, including the Japanese tea ceremony, or chadou (茶道). Based on her experiences in learning the tea ceremony during her childhood, Mitsuko will briefly talk about Japanese tea from historical, geographic, and aesthetic perspectives and demonstrate Bonryaku-demae (盆略点前).
