The Student Foreign Policy Initiative will be joining the IU History Club for an event with IU history professor Nick Cullather on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 6 pm in State Room West of the IMU. Professor Cullather will be discussing and signing copies of his latest book, The Hungry World: America's Cold War Battle against Poverty in Asia. Also, we will be giving away one signed copy of the book at the door!
The book was recently announced as one of five finalists for the Lionel Gelber Prize, an award given to the world's best nonfiction book in English on a topic that deepens public debate on a global issue. One reviewer recently described Prof. Cullather's work as "a pathbreaking book [that] takes readers on a journey of understanding about the failures of the "development" model so beloved by American policymakers from before the Cold War to the present. It may well become famous as a turning point about how to think about world poverty and to stimulate new answers to it."
