Please make sure that graduate AND undergraduate students know that the deadline for FLAS Fellowships for Summer 2011 and Academic Year 2011-2012 is February 1.
Please also note that FLAS fellowships are now available for UNDERGRADUATES through the Global Center. To be eligible, undergraduates must pursue studies in intermediate or advanced levels of a less commonly taught language (any modern language other than Spanish, French, and German).
Given the global scope of the Center's programs, languages eligible for FLAS support are not restricted to any one geographic region of the world. However, the language instruction must benefit and further research or a career that is global in scope. Already approved languages for FLAS support through the Center for the Study of Global Change currently include Arabic, Chinese, Advanced French, Hindi, Japanese, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Advanced Spanish, and Turkish. We are able to request approval from the Dept. of Education for additional languages as needed to support and facilitate global research.
