Title: Making Manchu Identity
Date and Time: Saturday, April 28th, 3:00pm
Place: Indianapolis Museum of Art, DeBoest Lecture Hall
Description of the Talk
“Making Manchu Identity” reviews definitions of Manchu dress (including claims of ancient precedents) and discusses the evolution of the official attire used during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) and beyond. By separating fact from fancy, this lecture attempts to create a comprehensive and nuanced view of a topic that affects nearly every collection of Chinese dress, both public and private.
Speaker: John Vollmer
