Public Speaking—Session I: “Speaking Up, Out…and In—Getting Comfortable Participating In Class”
Nervous about speaking in class?  Worried about expressing your opinions or having your point of view understood?  Concerned about feeling uncomfortable sharing your thoughts in front of teachers or peers?
Led by the Department of Communication and Cultures, this workshop is designed specifically to remedy these common anxieties.  Whether we like it or not, “participation” is often a significant component of student evaluation.  Yet many students have difficulty even asking a question, let alone talking in class.  Taking “participation” as a starting point, this workshop will work through some common roadblocks, from cultural values and beliefs to habits and norms of behavior, in order to help students practice communicating their ideas in a classroom setting.  Students will be challenged to think critically and creatively, to contribute to lively discussions, and to see how much fun participating in class can be!
Join us on Wednesday, March 30, 6:30pm, at the International Center for this great workshop.  Please RSVP by Monday, March 28, if you plan to attend.
This program is sponsored by the Department of Communication and Culture and the Public Speaking Club.
