Volunteer in Bloomington


1. USA International Harp Competition - July 8-20

The USA International Harp Competition, which takes place in Bloomington every three years, is currently seeking volunteers for July 8-20. Welcoming over 50 of the best young harpists from around the world, the competition will feature over 80 live performances that are free and open to the public. Volunteer opportunities include: welcoming competitors, transporting competitors, performance and competition ushering, reception management, competitor organization, noise monitoring, stage set up, personal assistant for each of the final three competitors, personal assistants for guest artists, and merchandise sales. 2. Hoosier to Hoosier Community Sale - June-Aug.

All hands are needed to sort, move and organize donated items for the IU Office of Sustainability's H2H sale on Aug. 24! Volunteer sessions in June and July will focus on picking up, moving, sorting and storing donations. Aug. shifts will include labeling, cleaning and organizing. Sale day duties range from helping customers load their purchases to writing receipts. The ability to do heavy lifting is not required, but there will be plenty of heavy lifting for those who are able. Please contact them if there is another way you would like to be involved. 3. Food Drive Volunteers- Aug 23-25

The "Each One, Feed One" Community Food Drive is held each Aug. at grocery stores across Monroe County. Volunteers are needed to fill 250 slots during this three-day drive that restocks the pantry's shelves after the summer. Volunteers are needed to collect donations and to assist with coordination. 4. Summer Breakfast Prep and Delivery

Start a child's day right this summer! Community Kitchen of Monroe County needs help to prepare, assemble and deliver free sack breakfasts that are then distributed to children in low-income neighborhoods in Bloomington during the summer. No previous experience is needed- just a willingness to help. Minimum age is 14 or 10 if accompanied by an adult. Regular kitchen shifts are also needed throughout the summer. 5. Usher at the Buskirk-Chumley

Ushers are the face of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater during their special events. Ushers greet patrons, take tickets and generally assist patrons with their needs. Ushering requires approximately a four hour commitment; most events take place evenings and weekends. Volunteer ushers must be friendly and able to work with a wide variety of community members.
