Coffee Hour with the Estonian Ambassador

On Wednesday, January 16, Estonian Ambassador to the U.S., Marina Kaljurand, will be giving a public lecture entitled "Estonian Foreign Policy in 2013" at the University Club (IMU, 2nd floor) at 3:00PM. The Ambassador will also present Professor Dr. Toivo Raun (director, West European Studies) with the Order of the White Star, a state decoration from the Republic of Estonia.

A reception will follow in the IMU Faculty Club.

Please note that from 1:45 to 2:45PM there will be a coffee hour with the Ambassador in the West European Studies office (Ballantine Hall 542) so that students and faculty have a chance to meet with the Ambassador. Coffee and treats will be served. There will also be an opportunity for conversation in Estonian.

The Ambassador will discuss the challenges of Estonian Foreign Policy, Estonian relations with Russia, and Estonia's role in NATO and the European Union.

Ms. Kaljurand has also served as Ambassador of Estonia to the Russian Federation (2005-2008) and as chief negotiator on accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD-2008-2011). She is an MA graduate from the Fletcher School of Diplomacy at Tufts University, and has been employed by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1991.

The visit is sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia, Central Eurasian Studies, the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center, the Russian and East European Institute, and the West European Studies Center.

We hope to see many of you there!
