This week at WEST

Please be aware of two exciting events happening this week:

1. Join us on Wednesday, April 18, at 3:30 pm in the IMU Sassafras Room for a panel on "Translating the Baltic Sea Region: A Conversation with Literary Translators." As moderated by the Department of Central Eurasian Studies' Toivo Raun, "Translating the Baltic Sea Region" represents a rare opportunity to hear translators from a variety of backgrounds discuss the particularities and challenges of their work. This event is sponsored by the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center (IAUNRC) and the West European Studies Center, and is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit the IAUNRC website.

2. On April 22 at 9 pm, the European Union Center will host an “Overture to Europe Day.”  Traditionally celebrated on May 9 in commemoration of the signing of the Schuman Declaration, Europe Day celebrates the European Union and European Integration.  The European Union Center will host a free reception at the IU Art Museum following a performance by the European Youth Orchestra at 7 pm at the IU auditorium. The reception, which is free and open to the public, will feature a speech by Ida Heimann Larsen, Minister-Counselor at the Royal Danish Embassy, short presentations by the EU Center Staff on activities to educate Midwesterners about European Affairs, and hors d’oeuvres. For more information, please refer to the event flyer.
