Professors Peter Todd (Cogsci/Informatics) and Richard Wilk (Anthropology) have organized a one-day workshop on ongoing and future research on Food and Sustainability, with funding from a Sustainability and Environmental Literacy Leadership Award from the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs. Over 60 faculty and graduate students from seventeen universities in Indiana and surrounding states will assemble on Saturday, November 5 to discuss their food research. The goal of the workshop is to build regional networks of research collaboration on this vital topic. With increasing efforts at making the Midwestern food system more sustainable appearing all over the region, along with growing interest in food quality, origins, and healthfulness on campuses, this is a particularly important time for faculty and graduate students to meet and share their research interests, plans and results. Said Professor Wilk, "Indiana University is already at the forefront of interdisciplinary food studies, with a growing community of scholars working in this domain. We are fortunate to have the support of the University, and forward-thinking administrators, in bringing this group together." The conference will run all day Saturday in the Student Building, from 10AM to 6:15 PM. Space is limited; if you would like to attend to hear the presentations and meet the participants, please contact Ryan Kennedy at jonrkenn@umail.iu.edu for details.
