GLLC-G291: Study Abroad: Before You Go
Class # 32958
Fall 2011, 2nd 8 Weeks (1-Credit)
T & R 9:30-10:45 AM, Foster Quad 012B (Global Village)
Instructor: Julie Madwell

G291 is intended to encourage and enhance a broad range of international experiences. If students will be studying abroad in Spring 2012, Summer 2012, Fall 2012 or AY 2012-13, this course will help them prepare for their international experience.

This course prepares students for the rewarding educational experience of studying abroad and is structured around four major topics:
1) pre-departure considerations
2) life in the host country
3) strategies for recognizing obstacles and overcoming challenges
4) integrating study and daily personal experiences with post-travel educational goals.

A number of visitors, including international students studying at IU as well as  returning IU study abroad students, will visit the class to share their personal experiences from studying abroad.

In order to register for the course, students will need permission from me. In order to be considered for authorization students must e-mail (kbsaur@indiana.edu) a paragraph about their plans to study abroad that will then determine whether they are suitable for the course.
