Rockefeller Medicine in China

Please join the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University and the Medical Humanities-Health Studies Program at IUPUI for a public lecture by Mary Brown Bullock, Ph.D., Distinguished Visiting Professor of China Studies at Emory University, a Senior Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the president emerita of Agnes Scott College, on Monday, October 3, 2011 in Indianapolis.

“Rockefeller Medicine in China,” is the theme of the presentation by Dr. Bullock.  She will discuss the involvement of the Rockefeller family in China, including the Peking Union Medical School and China Medical Board, as well as current medical issues in China and their historical roots.   Dr. Bullock’s presentation will take place on Monday, October 3rd, from 12 noon-1 p.m. in the Van Nuys Medical Science building at 635 Barnhill Road, Room MS 311A&B, on the IUPUI campus.  Refreshments will be served.
Mary Brown Bullock, a specialist on U.S.– China relations, is the chair of the China Medical Board and a director of the Henry Luce Foundation, the National Committee on U.S. – China Relations, the Asia Foundation, the Harvard-Yenching Institute, the National Humanities Center and Genuine Parts Company.  Her latest book, The Oil Prince’s Legacy: Rockefeller Philanthropy in China, was published in June, 2011 by Stanford University Press and the Woodrow Wilson Center Press.  Prior to serving as a college president, Mary Bullock was the Director of the Asia Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Director of the Committee on Scholarly Communication with the People’s Republic of China.  She received her Ph.D. in Chinese history from Stanford University and lives with her husband George in Atlanta.
