Please come for an informal town hall meeting and get to know your neighbors. It is our hope to begin discussions for a network to support a Pan-Asian committee initiative in Bloomington. --An Introduction to Chanoyu (茶の湯)
April 14, 2011; 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.-IU Asian Culture Center
Mitsuko Kawabata, a second year Ph.D. student in Ethnomusicology, presents an introduction to the Japanese tea ceremony at the Asian Culture Center .Mitsuko has had the opportunity to learn and appreciate various types of tea, including the Japanese tea ceremony, or chadou (茶道). Based on her experiences in learning the tea ceremony during her childhood, Mitsuko will briefly talk about the Japanese tea ceremony and demonstrate Bonryaku-demae (盆略点前). The presentation will be informal, and there will be a Maccha (抹茶) tasting.

Feng Liu is finishing her first year of graduate school in the MFA program at IU. Feng uses brightest colors to reflect people’s feelings in her paintings. Feng was born in China and went to Florida State University for her undergraduate.
--“Bust an Asian Myth: A Dinner and Dialogue”

Students are invited to a roundtable dinner and discussion to help bust an Asian myth and explain why it's not true!
